Textbook for beginner/intermediate Polish classes and interactive computer exercises (www.cenes.ubc.ca)

(with Gaby Pailer) – Gender Discourses in the Age of Nationalism. This course is devoted to cultural and social discourses of women, their roles and identities, and the formation of gender-specific national and intercultural models in literary works. Texts are selected from works written in German, Russian, Polish and other Slavic languages between roughly 1850 and 1930. The course has been offered since 2005-06

Polish Literature and Film in Translation. This course deals with 20th century Polish literature and film during the breakdown period of Western civilization as a result of Nazism, the two World Wars and the attempt to build a communist utopia by force. The main themes (Nazi occupation, cultural processes under communism, the rise of Solidarity and the formation of a civic society) are discussed in conjunction with the idea of the witness and questions pertaining to changes in the political and cultural scene of Eastern Europe. The course has been offered since 2008-9.
